A summary from Generasi GIGIH webinars series.

About a month ago I was lucky enough to be selected as one of Generasi GIGIH scholarship awardees for the Data Analyst path. So, what is Generasi GIGIH? Generasi GIGIH is a Yayasan Anak Bangsa Bisa program that aims to tackle Indonesia’s lack of technology talents. This program consists of learning modules that are divided into three main categories: Backend, Frontend, and Data Analyst. I am very grateful to participate in this program because it already helps me improving my skills.

Generasi GIGIH

In this program, there are also webinar series that allow us to learn from the technology experts.

I will tell you the summary of what I learn from the webinar series.

Webinar Series #1: “Getting Ahead by Learning to Unlearn and Relearn”
by Aleisha Fiona, Leadership Development at Gojek

Learn, unlearn and relearn are a learning concept that helps us to keep survive from a massive and rapid change, especially in this technology era.

The illustration of learn, unlearn, and relearn process.

Learn, means absorbing the knowledge we may not know before. This process starts when we were born and continues until we die. We have familiarly experienced this process in our school.

Unlearn allows us to discard and validate the relevance of our past knowledge. Unlearning is an important process that will allow us to accept new concepts or knowledge that more relevant than the knowledge we have learned before. As an illustration, we can’t pour water into a full cup then we need to empty the cup first. Same as we can’t learn something new with an already-know-everything mindset.

Relearn allows us to connect our initial knowledge with something new or relevant. After unlearning process we will relearn which knowledge that still relevant to our current situation. This process will keep our minds open to any perceptions and possibilities.

Learning + Unlearning + Relearning = Change = Experience = Growth

Webinar Series #2: “Self Learning 101 for Tech Talent”
by Opan Mustopah, System Engineer at GoPay

Self-learning is a must-have skill in this technology era so we can stay updated on the latest technology and be able to adapt. Mas Opan shared some tips about how to self-learning in tech industry in this webinar series.

Three Stages of Programming (Sandhika Galih)

I will put the tips onto a list so it will be easier to understand.

  1. Find your interest or goals.
  2. Learn everything you need to learn from books, Udemy, Youtube, Coursera, etc.
  3. Create your own Github repository so it could become your portfolio and get feedback from the experts.
  4. Create a small project and put it on your Github.
  5. Repeat Step 1-Step 4 !1!1!.
  6. Become an Effective Engineer.
  7. Do freelancing.
  8. Find mentor.

The main keywords in self-learning are consistent, disciplined, and have a growth mindset.

Webinar Series #3: “What to Prepare to be a Change Maker”
by Kevin Aluwi, Co-Founder and CEO of Gojek

In this webinar series, Kevin shared a lot of the challenges he and other co-founders experienced when they founded Gojek until now. Some struggles they face in the early phase of Gojek are the difficulty to find investors, legal issues, and even physical conflict between Gojek drivers and conventional drivers.

Kevin also talked about how to be a change-maker. He said that we need to have realistic ambitions and goals because if we have unrealistic ambitions it will not make us passionate to work for our goals. But if we start with small realistic ambitions and we successfully achieved them, the next ambitions will be getting bigger and bigger. Start with a small step.
Kevin also mentioned that you don’t need to help the government change the fate of a whole nation to be a change-maker. Start from a problem around yourself and try to solve it then we have become a change maker. Again, start with a small step.

You need to identify what steps you need to take to achieve your goals.
Start from small steps, small progress, because small regular progress is better than no progress at all.

Start with small steps

I want to thank YABB and Gojek to give me a chance to join this program because I have learned many things since Day 1. I believe what I have learned from this program will help my career in the future.

Let’s fly higher …
